This presentation covers the overview of the NIS database, the ICD-10-CM/PCS, DRG, & MDC codes in the NIS, and the steps for conducting the NIS data analyses. Specifically, the NIS file structure/data elements/file specifications/summary of variables available for analysis, the applications of ICD-10-CM/PCS, DRG, & MDC codes in NIS for extracting the interested study population, and the guidelines for conducting the NIS data analyses will be introduced.
