Writing high impact papers: CSTAT Self-paced D2L Course
This course is open throughout Fall semester 2022.
Course objectives:
Participants will be guided through reporting guidelines from the EQUATOR Network (https://www.equator-network.org) for randomized trials, observational studies, systematic reviews, and for diagnostic and prognostic studies. These were developed for health research, but apply to other disciplines. Participants will be able to apply these guidelines to improve the writing of their manuscript or of a conference abstract. Participants will be able to write a conference abstract for their own research or critique an existing abstract in their research field.
Cost: Free without certificate
Optional Certificate and Capstone project: $59 for certificate with instructor graded capstone project (=conference abstract review and constructive comments)

- Introduction to reporting guidelines and overview of study designs
- CONSORT Statement: reporting guidelines for randomized trials
- STROBE Statement: reporting guidelines for observational studies
- PRISMA Statement: reporting guidelines for systematic reviews and meta analyses
- TRIPOD: reporting guidelines for diagnostic or prognostic prediction models
Each module has an online quiz (unlimited attempts) that is automatically graded within D2L. The capstone project is instructor graded.
