Analysis of Health Care Claims
Presented by Dr. Hong Su An and Dr. Kevin Brooks, Institute of Health Policy, MSU
Since the statistical analysis is one of the major components for evaluation, research, and monitoring in healthcare research, various statistical methods have been applied using administrative healthcare data. In this presentation, we will explore the challenges and opportunities for the statistical analysis of administrative healthcare data. In addition, we will present case studies to introduce statistical methods applied for the evaluation and research using administrative healthcare data.
We will present the case studies perform by IHP to show the actual application of statistical methods using administrative healthcare data. One is the evaluation of Medicaid expansion in Flint. In this study, difference in difference method was applied to evaluate and monitor the Medicaid expansion in Flint. For the analysis, administrative health data were used for statistical modeling and analysis. Another is the predicting of functional decline using Health and Retirement study (HRS) data using machine learning. In this study, seven different machine learning algorithms are applied to predict functional decline in 2 years and 4 years.
