This seminar introduces the basic principles for design of randomized clinical trials and how they should be reported. We will cover:

• Terminology used in clinical trials 
• Common designs, such as parallel and cross-over designs, 
• Randomization and blinding of treatment
• Sample size planning
• Consequences for analysis and interpretation
