Survey Design

November 12, 2026
1:00 PM – 2:30 PM

Presenter: Wenjuan Ma

In person seminar limited to 15 people. RECR eligible.

Unlock the full potential of your surveys in this hands-on, interactive seminar that walks you through the entire survey design process—from articulating your research goals to collecting high-quality data. Whether you’re an academic researcher, program evaluator, or anyone who relies on questionnaires to make decisions, you’ll gain practical, immediately applicable skills.

Rather than a passive lecture, this session is built around active learning. You’ll engage in an interactive and hands-on experience. The seminar is organized around three essential pillars:

Research Design (What to Ask): Clarify your objectives and constructs, align questions with objectives, and avoid the trap of measuring everything except what matters.

Sampling & Administration (Who to Ask): Choose the right respondents, determine how to reach them, and manage modes of administration to reduce bias and maximize response rates within the constraints of time and budget.

Question Design (How to Ask): Write clear, unbiased questions, select appropriate response formats, and structure the questionnaire so respondents stay engaged and provide accurate answers.

By the end of the seminar, you’ll leave with a concise design framework, a practical checklist for spotting common survey errors, and the confidence to craft surveys that yield meaningful, trustworthy data. Come ready to think critically, interact, and completely transform the way you ask questions.

Please remember to bring your own laptop!
