An introduction to survival analysis: Basic concepts
6:00 PM
Zoom
In survival analysis or time-to-event analysis, patients are followed over time and the focus is the occurrence of an event of interest and at what time this event happens.
Such an event can occur in a short amount of time for some patients or years later for others, while for others it won't occur in the observation interval, but could happen later. Survival analysis methods incorporate this information. This seminar is an introduction to these methods. Some of the topics include:
- Organizing survival data for analysis
- Censoring of observations
- Kaplan-Meier curves
- R code
Not covered: A later CSTAT workshop will discuss more advanced topics such as Cox proportional hazard models and competing risks.
