Case Studies
The Detroit Sexual Assault Kit (SAK) Action Research Project
In 2009, approximately 11,000 sexual assault kits (also called “rape kits”) were found in a remote police property storage facility in Detroit, Michigan. An initial sample of 1,600 SAKs were submitted for forensic DNA testing and CSTAT developed statistical models to evaluate whether there was utility in testing all of these previously-unsubmitted SAKs.
Analysis of sympathetic innervation and myocardial substrate in patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy
Sympathetic innervation and ablation target areas for ventricular arrhythmias are studied in patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy.
What regional factors influence Lake Chad’s variations in water level?
Dr. Frederi Viens' team explores the complex hydrology, land use, and climate in the Lake Chad region.
Electronic health records and predictive modeling
Probabilistic methods for early prediction of adverse health events provide an opportunity to improve on deterministic clinical decision rules.
Genetic variation between population cohorts
Cardiovascular risk factors and genetic variation was compared between a migrant population and a native German population.
Initial Data Analysis
Initial data analysis is highly relevant before engaging in statistical modeling to inform about a potential impact on the analysis plan.
Performance development in Olympic weightlifting across the life span
Peak performance in Olympic weightlifting is achieved between 24.5 and 29.6 years of age with a median of 26.3 years. The age-associated performance decline for female weightlifters mirrors the decline for men except for an accelerated decline during a ten year period from the late 40's to late 50's.
