Open Science Webinar Series
Open Science is the transparent and accessible knowledge that is shared and developed through collaborative networks. Open Science practices encompass open source, open access, open data, open code, open peer review, pre-registration. Advantages are to improve reproducibility of research, better reporting, and the potential of answering more complex questions. Disadvantages are publication costs and lower quality articles. Learning how to prepare open data, to document open material, to pre-register studies, to follow reporting guidelines can be time consuming, but it is necessary to develop such Open Science skills for high impact research. CSTAT Recruiting for Research Assistant Positions (Summer 2022 and/or Fall 2022)
Attention graduate students: The Center for Statistical Training and Consulting (CSTAT, http://cstat.msu.edu) will be interviewing applicants for Summer 2022 and Fall 2022 Research Assistant (RA) positions, with possible continuation into future semesters depending on performance, staffing needs, and available funding. These RA positions are an excellent opportunity for students to get experience doing applied statistics, developing consulting skills, and engaging in multidisciplinary research. Doctoral students with strong quantitative methods, statistics, and research design skills are invited to apply by January 21, 2022 by sending a cover letter, resume/CV, and a completed copy of the application form to cstatinf@msu.edu.
How did the pandemic affect weightlifters? CSTAT paper in the news
CSTAT researchers conducted an international survey across3 continents in June 2021 to ask about motivation, barriers, and coping of older athletes during the COVID Pandemic. CSTAT hosts 2021 Virtual STRATOS Conference
The STRATOS Initiative (STRengthening Analytical Thinking for Observational Studies, https://stratos-initiative.org/) is an international collaboration of over 100 experts in many different areas of biostatistical and biomedical research. A virtual conference was hosted by CSTAT on November 2, 2021, by Dr. Marianne Huebner, director of CSTAT, who is also a co-chair of this organization. Discussions were about developing evidence-supported guidance for statistical issues of practical importance in clinical research through expert consensus. Progress reports of exciting projects covering study design, missing data methods, initial data analysis, variable selection, evaluation of prognostic models, survival analysis, measurement error, causal inference, and high dimensional data analysis were presented.
CSTAT Survey 2021 Report
CSTAT provides both statistical support and statistical training service. CSTAT statisticians are engaged in all phases of research projects including planning, data management, analysis, and reporting. You are being invited to participate in a web-based online survey about CSTAT. The objective is to gain a better understanding of your quantitative needs for your research projects, such as working with a statistician, data manager, graduate student, or obtain further training that CSTAT could provide.
Please check out the summary report of the 2021 Survey results.
CSTAT DAY!
We are excited to present a one day event with short presentations of multiple statistical topics. Join the Virtual Open House in the afternoon to meet the team and ask questions.
CSTAT Team returns to campus
CSTAT continues to conduct meetings and consultations via Zoom, but here we see part of the CSTAT team enjoying their lunch break in the beautiful MSU gardens.
